The artefact included demonstrates the variety of Extra-Curricula activities are offered to the students at Chatswood Public School. How: The clubs are formed and run by the teachers who possess the knowledge and skills in a specific area. When: In 2016, 17 clubs were offered to about 300 students. In 2017, 25 clubs are formed and over 500 students are participating the activities which include STEM based, Chinese calligraphy, Art, Drama, Social Chess and Public Speaking. What: Those clubs are run by teachers at lunch, before school and/or after school. The clubs provide the students the opportunity to experience, explore and extend in particular areas that are not solely academic. Why: This year, the number of clubs offered to the students have increased significantly which brought opportunities for more students to participate.
The Significant Impact
The Extra-Curricula activities provide the opportunities to enrich the students’ interests and strengths. The students show their enthusiasm and passion in the activities and continuously improve in the targeted area. An email account for the Extra-Curricula program was created in order to have an efficient communication tool with the parents. This has created positive relationships between the parents and school regarding this program. Positive feedback about this communication method was given by the parents.

The Extra-Curricula program is thoroughly reviewed at the end of each year for the following year’s program with consideration of students’ interest and needs. The teachers involved in Extra-Curricula activities are dedicated to catering to the options of clubs that are suited to each age group, according to their areas of their expertise. The timetables for those clubs have also been carefully organised for an effective and smooth operation of the program.
