The artefact is some photos of a collaborative Circle Solutions teaching session with a Yr2 class.‘Circle Solutions’ is a whole-school student wellbeing program administered at Chatswood Public School. The program is based upon underpinning research identified and collated by Associate Professor Sue Roffey (Roffey, 2014). Why Circle Solutions? In 2017, CPS is trialling the program in order to manage, evaluate and promote building resilience capital amongst our students. How are they used? As students are identified with particular needs, be they social, emotional and/or behavioural, trained staff are assigned to implement ‘Circle Solution’ sessions - 15-30 minute lessons tailored on the recognised issue. The included artefact is photo evidence of one of these sessions being implemented with a Year One class. What is the benefit? Circle solutions is implemented in order to provide holistic educational experiences for our students; to prepare them for the logistics of everyday life as well as the intricacies of academic rigour.

The Significant Impact

CPS adheres to the notion that fostering resilience amongst students and improving a student’s learning outcomes are inherently codependent. CPS has made various commitments to developing resilience within its students in its overarching School Plan 2015-2017. The goal here is that our students will develop in their intellectual qualities as well as emotional intelligence in order to be informed, active and respectful global citizens. The included artefact exemplifies this pedagogical approach in action: the means through which this goal becomes a reality.
