The artefacts are photographs from Term 2 Surviving Adolescence Parent Workshops and the notes for each term, Term 1 Mandarin, Term 2 English. Why: Surviving Adolescence Parent Workshops? Chatswood Public School is one of a number of schools to be approached by staff from Relationships Australia and Christian Community Aid as part of the Ready for Life, Ready for Success initiative being funded by Department of Health and FACS. These workshops were one of the programs selected by school staff. How: did the workshops occur in our school?  Staff at Chatswood Public School have been instrumental in facilitating this to occur including liaising with parents and facilitators. What: is their benefit?  Parental and student wellbeing is increasing. Parents who attended the workshops are engaging with their children in increasingly positive ways and making stronger links to the school. When: is it significant to have the Surviving Adolescence Parent Workshops? These workshops have the greatest value for parents and in turn students during the preadolescent and adolescent stage to develop parental skills and knowledge to enable parents to best support and guide their child through the changes in emotions, relationships and communication style that come with adolescence. If this occurs prior to beginning high school parents will be better able to support their child through the transition to high school.

The Significant Impact

Parents shared their experiences of communicating in more adolescent and child friendly ways with their children. All parents appeared to be more in control of their own emotions and more confident to deal with their journey with their child through their child’s adolescence. They are more engaged with their children and with the school.
