Annotation

Literacy, Language and Learning (L3) is an evidence based approach to teaching Literacy from K-2. When and How: Teachers are trained for 2 years on how to implement L3 into their classrooms. L3 requires data to be submitted every 5 weeks by the classroom teacher. What : he data consists of 3 parts; reading levels, vocabulary knowledge and sound knowledge. Why: Data is collected for the purpose of analysis and to inform teaching practice.

The Significant Impact

Data collection and analysis is used in all stages at Chatswood Public School. Teachers use data to understand student learning in their class and inform their teaching. As seen in the artefact, data is collected by all classroom teachers in Kindergarten every 5 weeks. This data is analysed as a grade in our Teaching and Learning Cycle meetings, so that we can collectively concentrate on any outlying students. The data is analysed by the classroom teacher to effectively differentiate their teaching and cater for the individual needs of students

In our self-assessment process the leadership team analysed a range of evidence to support our judgement.

SEF Connections

Learning Element

Curriculum and Learning - Sustaining and Growing

There are systematic programs, such as L3 and processes, such as the analysis of data to identify and address student learning needs.

Student Performance Measure - Sustaining and Growing

The L3 program indicates that students by the end of Kindergarten should be reading a level 9 text. Our data indicates that we regularly achieve around 20 per cent of students achieve at high level of performance (level 12+).

Teaching Element

Collaborative  Practice - Sustaining and Growing

Teachers work together, in our Teaching and Learning cycle meetings to improve teaching and learning for particular students in literacy through analysing the L3 data.

Leading Element

Leadership - Sustaining and Growing

The school has productive relationships with external agencies, such as an L3 trainer to improve educational opportunities for students.
