The artefact identifies the literacy and numeracy skills and understandings regarded as critical to academic success. When: The continuum tracker on Sentral provides a record of students’ progress in a central and accessible location and this progress began in 2015. What: Chatswood Public School we place a strong emphasis on the use of the NSW Literacy and Numeracy Continuums which provide a sequence of observable learning and behaviours that connect with the NSW Syllabus document. How: Staff is required to formally plot on the Literacy and Mathematics continuum on Sentral twice a year. Why: Using the English continuums continuum informs staff of student progress in understanding both literacy concepts and mathematical ideas, notations and techniques.

The Significant Impact

At Chatswood Public School, staff is able to map how aspects develop through the years of schooling by describing key markers of expected student achievement. Plotting on the continuum provides a clear documentation on what each students has achieved and provide insight into the next stage of the progression. It provides a holistic picture to the progress of the students. K-2 also analyse the numeracy continuum as part of the TENS program.
