The artefacts are the Mentoring Program Display board and the Mentoring Program handout for the teachers. What: The Teacher Mentoring Program is a highly supportive program that is built on rich professional dialogue; professional relationships based on trust, respect and openness; a process of collaboration and cooperation; and the effective use of resources. Why: It was chosen because it demonstrates the impact that planned and systematic support of teachers has had on the professional growth of all pre and post 2004 teachers at Chatswood Public School. Quality teaching and professional practice are evident with students receiving many and varied opportunities to achieve success. How: The Teacher Mentoring Program has enhanced curriculum delivery, implementation and provision through the mentorship provided to all members of staff and the learning alliances established with other schools. When: After evaluating the Teacher Mentoring Program each term subsequent modifications to the timetable are made in consultation with the senior executive team. This ensures relevant support is provided to meet the ever-changing individual needs of all staff and to ensure school priorities are being addressed. The collegial leader then engages in professional dialogue with assistant principals who make recommendations to their teams to ensure equitable access to the program.

The Significant Impact

This program has become an essential feature of our learning culture with a strong commitment to strengthen and deliver on school learning programs that identify, address and monitor student learning needs. The Mentoring Program increases teacher capacity and wellbeing as they see improvements in their teaching practice and in student learning outcomes. Teachers who are new to the school are able to learn about the behavioural expectations of the school and ways to create a positive teaching and learning environment.
